Certain mobile computer models use two video cards. One of them is a graphics chip integrated into the motherboard. Various utilities can be used to switch adapters.
It is necessary
- - BIOS access;
- - AMD Power Xpress;
- - nVidia Hybrid Power.
Instructions
Step 1
First, try switching the priority of the video adapters using the BIOS menu. Turn on the mobile computer and press the desired function key. Most often, its name is indicated during the startup boot menu.
Step 2
Open the Advanced Setup or Video Options menu. Find Primary Video. Press the Enter key and select the desired video adapter. Most often, an initially actively integrated device.
Step 3
If this item is missing, find the Video PciEx menu. It will display the characteristics of the discrete graphics card. Prioritize this device's activity by moving it to the first position.
Step 4
Go to the start screen of the BIOS menu. Save changes and restart your computer. It should be noted that some models of mobile computers initially run the integrated adapter. Disabling it completely in the BIOS may result in no display.
Step 5
To simplify the work with video cards, there are special utilities. If a discrete ATI board (Radeon) is installed in the mobile computer, install the ADM Power Xpress program together with the drivers.
Step 6
Run it and select "High (low) GPU performance" in the field that appears. Wait for the video adapter to change.
Step 7
If your laptop uses a combination of an Intel processor and an nVidia graphics card, then the switching will occur automatically. Just launch a powerful application such as a 3D game. The system will automatically change the priority video adapter.
Step 8
To switch video cards yourself, install the nVidia Hybrid Power program. Most often, this utility can be found on the website of the manufacturer of the mobile computer. Utilities for some models are also available at www.nvidia.com.
