The need to split a file into several arises when you need, for example, to copy information to another computer, but the removable media is busy or the space on it is limited. In this case, you can split a large file into several small ones and transfer them to another computer one by one.
Instructions
Step 1
One of the ways to split a file into several is to use special programs - archivers - most of which have the ability to create archives of specified sizes. There are many such programs. These are WinRAR, WinZip, 7-Zip, Haozip and others. Download and install any archiver you like if you haven't used it before.
Step 2
Further steps, how to split a file into several, we will show using the WinRar program as an example. Of course, the interface of each archiver is different, but if you stopped at another program, having familiarized yourself with its settings, you can easily repeat the same steps. Launch WinRar and in the built-in explorer, go to the folder containing the file that you want to divide into several small ones. Select this file with the mouse cursor and click on the "Add" button in the program toolbar.
Step 3
You will see the Archive Name and Parameters window. You can choose the archive format (RAR or ZIP), as well as the archiving parameters (deleting files after packing, creating a self-extracting SFX archive, etc.). In our case, they will not particularly affect the result.
Step 4
Specify the compression method - "No compression": it will save your time wasted by the computer for archiving. In the "Divide into volumes in size (in bytes)" field, manually enter the size that will correspond to one small archive file created by the program. After setting the settings, click OK.
Step 5
When the program finishes archiving and creating files, you will see several new archives in the folder with the original file, each of which exactly matches the size you entered. The last archive is usually smaller. You can now copy the parts of the file obtained in this way to another computer. Move all the parts there, otherwise you will not be able to unpack them on it.
