When formatting a hard disk partition, the program will mark up the storage medium. Depending on the type of formatting, the disk surface can be checked, and logical data access structures are formed.

Instructions

Step 1

Partitions are formatted differently, depending on which operating system will be installed on the disk. If you intend to run Windows, the system partition can be formatted during the installation process.

Step 2

The installer will prompt you to choose which system to format the drive: FAT32 or NTFS. NTFS is a more modern system, with more management and control capabilities, it is advisable to opt for it. Select the desired item using the Up and Down control keys.

Step 3

The logical drive that will store the information can be formatted using Windows commands. In the "Control Panel" double-click on the "Administrative Tools" icon and open the "Computer Management" node. In the management console window, double-click the Disk Management snap-in.

Step 4

Formatting destroys all data on the disk, so save important information to another medium before starting the process. Select the drive you want to format, and from the Action menu under All Tasks, select Format.

Step 5

In the "File system" box, mark NTFS or FAT in the list. In the next step, you need to choose the cluster size. A cluster is disk space that the system allocates to store one file. You can choose the cluster size from the list or leave this parameter at the default. The system will determine it based on the size of the volume.

Step 6

If you select the "Quick format" checkbox, the program will not check the surface condition, but will simply overwrite the file table to the beginning of the disk.

Step 7

It should be borne in mind that it will not be possible to install another operating system on a partition formatted using Windows tools. You can use the Acronis Disk Director program if you want to run, for example, Linux-like systems.

Step 8

Start the program and select the "Manual" operating mode in the "View" menu. Select with the cursor the disk you are going to format, and in the drop-down menu, check the "Format" item. In the new window, specify the file system type, cluster size and click OK.
