Almost every user has information on his computer that is extremely important to him: work documents, personal photos, passwords for basic programs, and so on. Usually this information is stored in a special folder, which would be nice to protect from editing. You can set write protection using standard operating system tools.
Instructions
Step 1
Open the location in My Computer for the directory you want to protect. Right-click on the folder icon and thus call the drop-down menu. Select the item below "Properties". If you want to hide this folder for others to view, check the box next to Hidden at the bottom of the Properties window.
Step 2
Open the Security tab and configure the user rights to access the folder. Activate the user and edit the list of possible actions with this folder. To disable recording, uncheck the corresponding checkbox in the list at the bottom of the tab. Repeat this procedure for each user and save the changes by clicking "Apply" and then "Ok". A small icon will appear on the icon of your protected folder. You can also configure password access on the same Security tab.
Step 3
If you plan to transfer this folder to the media, please note that these parameters are valid only in your operating system. On another computer, there will be no problems with writing to this folder, and the system will not ask for a password if you have set it. Use a special program to protect external media.
Step 4
As a rule, it is best to set a password for entering the operating system so that other users cannot copy or write new information to a personal computer. You can also use special software that allows you to set passwords for folders and files. In general, we can say that it is not difficult to establish write protection in the operating system, since there are many different ways. Even a novice user can cope with such a task.
