Conversion of the file system of a removable USB device can be performed using standard tools of the Microsoft Windows operating system. This process is commonly referred to as formatting.
Instructions
Step 1
Call the main menu of the Microsoft Windows operating system by clicking the "Start" button and go to the "Settings" item to initiate the process of formatting the file system of the flash drive to NTFS.
Step 2
Select "Control Panel" and expand the "System" node.
Step 3
Go to the Hardware tab of the properties dialog box that opens and select Device Manager.
Step 4
Select the "Disk drives" section in the new manager dialog box and open the "Drive_name: Properties" window by double-clicking on the item line.
Step 5
Click the Policy tab of the next dialog box and apply the check box to the Optimize for Execution box.
Step 6
Confirm your selection by clicking OK and close all open windows.
Step 7
Return to the main Start menu and go to My Computer to format the removable device.
Step 8
Call the context menu of the disk file system to be converted by clicking the right mouse button and select the "Format" command in the drop-down list.
Step 9
Apply the checkbox to the "Optimize for execution" field and confirm the execution of the command by clicking OK.
Step 10
Select the NTFS option in the drop-down menu of the File system line of the Format Removable Disk dialog box that opens and click the Start button.
Step 11
Wait for the formatting process to complete or return to the main Start menu to perform an alternative operation to convert the file system of the removable device.
Step 12
Go to Run and enter cmd in the Open field.
Step 13
Confirm the execution of the command to run the command line tool by clicking OK and enter the value
convert RemovableDiskName: / fs: ntfs / nosecurity / x
into the command interpreter text box.
Step 14
Confirm execution of the command by pressing the Enter function key and type exit in the command line text box.
Step 15
Confirm the execution of the command interpreter shutdown command by pressing the Enter function key.
