Step 1
Open the sound file in Sound Forge editor. In the main menu of the application window, select the "File" and "Open" items, or press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + O or Ctrl + Alt + F2. A file selection dialog will appear. Change to the directory with the desired file. Highlight it in the list. Click the "Open" button.
Step 2
Delete fragments of silence at the beginning and at the end of the music track, if present. Select the fragment to be deleted with the mouse. Press the Del button, or select "Edit" and "Delete" from the menu. For a more precise selection, preview the beginning and end of the sound file by clicking the "Play Normal" button located at the bottom of the document window.
Step 3
Save the audio clip. Press the Alt + F2 key combination, or select the "File" and "Save As …" items from the menu. In the save file dialog, select a storage format that can be compressed. The mp3 format works well. Click the "Custom …" button. Set the parameters of the output audio stream to reduce the size of the piece of music. For example, lower the sample rate, bit rate. Click the "OK" button. Click the "Save" button. Wait for the end of the save operation.
