The scanner is designed to create digital copies of images. The scanned document can be saved as a picture or converted to text format. It all depends on what end result the user wants to get, and what applications he uses for work.
Instructions
Step 1
By default, the scanner saves captured images as.jpg,.bmp, or.tiff files - this is the graphics format. You can work with files of this type in graphic editors: change the resolution, contrast, brightness of the document or apply other visual effects. The cross-platform.pdf format provides slightly different possibilities for image processing, but still, in order to work with a scanned document in text format, you need to use either a separate scanner function or a special application for OCR.
Step 2
Explore the capabilities of your scanner. For many models, the developers provide a utility for converting the scanned image into text, it is supplied with the device and is located on the installation disc. In the scanner menu, this option is referred to as "Text Recognition" or OCR (Optical Character Recognition). If this option is not available, install a third-party application such as Fine Rider.
Step 3
Select the appropriate button in the menu of the scanner or program and wait for the scan to finish. After that, the information from the document can either be automatically translated into text format and opened in notepad, or you will need to perform several additional steps.
Step 4
If the text was exported to a.txt file, save the document in the usual way, or copy its contents and paste into a document in a different format, such as.doc (.docx). If you still see the text as a picture, select the "Recognize" step and wait for the process to complete. After that, select the "Export" command, or copy the recognized text and paste it into the document in a format convenient for you.
Step 5
The quality of the "translation" of the text from the scanner largely depends on the selected resolution settings. The higher the resolution, the more accurate the copy will be made by the scanner. When you are going to translate a picture into text, the best option would be medium resolution settings. If the resolution is too low, the copy will not be very clear, therefore, it will be more difficult to recognize the text. If the resolution is too high, the extra noise will also make it difficult to translate graphics into text.
