When you move information on the hard disk of your computer and download from the Internet, the files do not always end up in the directory in which they will be stored for a long time. Certain operating system commands and functions save information only temporarily, and if you do not want to lose important data, you should know where to find it.
Instructions
Step 1
One of the main temporary file storage is the operating system clipboard, where files or folders are saved after the "copy" or "cut" command. If you forget or do not have time to select the destination of the data transfer, the data in the clipboard will be replaced or deleted during the subsequent copying or rebooting of the system. The same applies, for example, to text copied from any text document. Therefore, after copying the information, immediately select the desired folder for its further storage and execute the "paste" command.
Step 2
When downloading from the Internet, files are not always saved to the Downloads folder or another easily accessible directory. If, by clicking on the download link, you select the "Open file" function in the browser, it will start as soon as the download is completed. But after closing it will be problematic to find the file, since this command saves the data to a temporary folder on the hard disk, which is located in the system partition and may even be hidden. You can find out where it is located in the browser properties or using the system search. After restarting the computer or browser, this folder is cleared if the corresponding option is enabled. Therefore, if you want to use the file after downloading, select the "Save file as …" command.
Step 3
Periodically, the system itself creates temporary files - reports on various system errors and operations, rollback versions of files, loaded Internet pages to speed up their reopening, etc. To access these files, open the Temp folder located in the root directory of your hard drive or in the Windows folder. All temporary files have *.tmp extension. Previous versions of text documents are often saved here, which often have to be restored if any problems arise.
