After purchasing a modem, the most difficult part is to configure it correctly. After connecting the modem to the computer, the installation program will start. This program will set the initial parameters of the modem to their default values. After the installation is complete, you will be able to more accurately configure the modem. Run from the Modem Configuration Control Panel

Go to Start Menu - Control Panel. If you have not installed the modem yet, the Install New Modern wizard will be launched, if the modem is installed, the modem properties dialog box will appear.

If you have not yet configured your modem, the Modem Configuration wizard will automatically start. If it does not start, then you must click the Add button.

Specify your modem type and click Next. If your operating system is Windows XP or later, the modem should be recognized by the system automatically. But you have the option of manually recognizing the modem. To do this, check the box “Don't detect my modem”. Click the Next button.

If you specified automatic recognition of the modem type, the operating system will analyze the ports, identifying the modem type and brand. It should be borne in mind that not all modems can be recognized correctly.
Step 6
If you have specified manual definition of the modem type, then the modem selection window will appear on the screen. In the left list, select the manufacturer, and in the right list, specify the specific model of your modem. Click the Next button. With this method of identifying the modem, you will need to specify which port your modem is connected to. Most modems connect to the serial port, but there may be exceptions.

If you cannot find your modem in the list, then indicate one of the types and the maximum data transfer rate. Click the Next button

When setting up for the first time, enter your area code. As well as other parameters of your telephone network, dialing method, network type, etc.
