System memory and central processing unit (CPU) largely determine the overall power of a computer. If you are looking to increase the performance of your PC, then one of the easiest ways to achieve this is to add system memory. You can do this at home.

Instructions
Step 1
Before adding system memory, you should make sure your motherboard has free slots for it. Open the lid of the system unit and see if there are free DDR slots. You can also use the instructions for the motherboard for this. But this information can help if you know how many memory modules are already installed.
Step 2
You can use the CPUID CPU-Z utility. It weighs quite a bit and is free. After installing the utility on your computer, run it. Go to the SPD tab. Click on the arrow in the upper left corner. You will see the number of slots for connecting system memory.
Step 3
When you select a slot number, information about the type of memory module that is connected is shown. Remember or write down this information as you need to install the same type of memory. If you have selected a slot and the information screen is blank, then there is no memory module installed in it. This way you can calculate the free number of slots.
Step 4
The very process of installing system memory is as follows. Remove the cover of the system unit. There is a latch on each side of the DDR slot. Lower these latches to the down position. There is a key on the memory strips, which means a special slot. Match this key with the key on the motherboard. After that, apply a little pressure, but do not use excessive force. There can only be one correct position in a memory module. The latches on the edges of the slot will secure the bar. You should hear a faint click, indicating that the module is installed.
Step 5
After installing the memory, it is recommended not to immediately close the lid of the system unit, but turn on the computer and check if the newly installed module is displayed in the system. Just after making sure that everything works fine, close the lid of the system unit.
