When storing CDs for a long time, exposure to sunlight or storing discs near heating batteries, partial loss of information from them may occur. Also, loss occurs when scratching or rubbing the surface of the disc on which data is recorded. But even in such cases, there is a possibility of recovering lost files.
Necessary
- - CD drive;
- - program for recovering files from CD.
Instructions
Step 1
Find out how badly the disc is damaged. To do this, you can use various disk diagnostic programs (for example, Non Stop Copy). This step can be omitted if scratches, chips, abrasions are visually clearly visible on the recorded side of the disc.
Step 2
Start recovering the erroneous files with disk recovery software. Alternatively, you can use the following programs: Akol, CD Recovery Toolbox Free, Max Data Recovery.
Step 3
Determine how well the recovery went. If the files have recovered well, the job is over. If bad, then go to step 4.
Step 4
Remove dust and prints. For this it is recommended to use a clean, dry, soft cloth. The best option is cotton. Wipe from the center of the disc to the edge with little or no force. Do not use gasoline, acetone or other solvents to avoid negative reactions with the disc surface.
Step 5
Restore disk transparency. To do this, polish its surface. However, in this case, the appearance of new micro-scratches is inevitable. Since longitudinal scratches are dangerous for the disc, polishing must be done in a direction transverse to the disc tracks, that is, along the radius. Instead of polish, you can use goy paste dissolved in kerosene or white spirit, as well as toothpaste dissolved in equal parts with water.
Step 6
Fill in the scratches. We recommend the use of regular wax-based Pronto polish. Apply a small amount of polish to the scratch and rub with a piece of soft cloth so that the wax will fill in the scratch and remove refraction at that place. This action must be performed with all scratches. Then it is immediately recommended to make a copy of the disk, in 5-7 days the disc will be unreadable again.
