Almost any processor has overclocking potential. The specific frequency at which you can overclock the processor depends on its model. This is one of the easiest ways to improve the overall performance of your computer without the need for hardware upgrades.

Instructions
Step 1
If you have an AMD processor, it is best to use the AMD OverDrive program to overclock it. If this program is not on the driver disc, you can download it from the official site. Install the application on your computer. Then restart your computer.
Step 2
Start AMD OverDrive. After starting, a window with introductory information will appear. Click OK. You will be taken to the main menu of the program, where you can choose several different ways to increase the processor speed. But the most optimal of them is to use the automatic overclocking option. The program will automatically test your processor and select the maximum allowable frequency based on its capabilities and installed cooling.
Step 3
For automatic overclocking, click on Auto Clock in the program menu. A list of your processor cores will appear in the lower left corner. By default, they are all checked, which means that all cores will be overclocked. It is not recommended to uncheck the boxes, just click Start. The processor test procedure begins. When finished, click Apply settings. After that, the changes will take effect and your processor will operate at the new, higher frequency.
Step 4
Intel processor owners can use the ClockGen program. Download it from the Internet. The program does not need to be installed. Run ClockGen, then click on PLL Setup in the menu. Click on the arrow in the upper right corner and select the type of motherboard chipset.
Step 5
After that select the Clocks section. In the window that opens, you will see a slider opposite which there will be an inscription FSB. Move this slider slightly to the right, thereby increasing the processor frequency. Save the settings. If the computer is working properly, you can increase the processor frequency a little more.
