Sometimes, to the great chagrin of the happy owners of personal computers running OS Windows, the system stops loading or does not work correctly. This can happen due to hard drive damage or software failure. Microsoft offers several ways to restore the functionality of different versions of Windows OS.

Instructions

Step 1

To restore Windows Vista, there is System Restore. The system creates restore points automatically every day, as well as before important changes in the system - for example, before loading a new program or driver. However, you can create them manually:

- click the "Start" button, then successively "Control Panel", "System and its maintenance" and "System".

- on the left side of the screen, select "System Protection".

- in the menu, click the "System Protection" tab and the "Create" command. In the input window, you need to describe the restore point. You can just write "Restore Point" and complete the process by clicking the "Create" button.

Step 2

If the operating system does not work correctly, apply "System Restore":

- close all applications, save open files.

- Click on the "Start" button, then check "All Programs", then "Standard", "System Tools" and "System Restore". From the list provided, select the point created shortly before the problems began. The program will restart your computer.

Step 3

If you still have problems after rebooting, try selecting an earlier restore point. If the list of restore points is not displayed, make sure that System Protection is enabled and that there is at least 300 MB of free space on the disk:

- click "Start", select "Control Panel", "System and Maintenance", System.

- on the left side, mark the command "System protection".

- enter the administrator password, if necessary. Check the box next to the drive and confirm with OK.

Step 4

If system files are corrupted, try using Startup Repair. This program is located on the Windows installation disc. It scans the computer at startup and tries to fix the problems it finds:

- insert the bootable disc into the optical drive and restart your computer

- when asked to boot, press any key to confirm booting from the installation disk

- select the interface language, to continue working, click "Next"

- confirm "System Restore"

- select the operating system in need of recovery from the list. Continue by clicking "Next"

- in the menu that appears, select the "Startup recovery" option.

Step 5

If you have Startup Repair installed on your computer, proceed as follows:

- restart your computer

- After the system starts booting, press and hold the F8 key until the Windows logo appears. Wait for the login prompt and restart your computer

- after the list of additional boot options appears, select "System Restore"

- select language options and click "Next"

- enter your username and password, confirm your choice by pressing the OK button

- from the options menu, select "Startup Recovery".
