To create a home or office combined local area network with Internet access, it is recommended to use a Wi-Fi router. This device helps to connect a fairly large number of laptops, computers and printers into a single network.
It is necessary
- - Wi-Fi router;
- - network cables.
Instructions
Step 1
First, select a Wi-Fi router. If you do not plan to connect too many devices to this equipment, then you can choose a budget router model, for example D-Link Dir-300. Purchase this Wi-Fi router. Note that you need a more powerful device to work with 802.11n.
Step 2
Connect power to this equipment. Turn on the router. Connect a network cable to one of the four LAN ports. Connect the other end to the network card of a stationary computer or laptop. Turn on the connected equipment and launch the browser.
Step 3
Connect an Internet cable to the Internet port of the router. Enter in the address bar of your browser https://192.168.0.1. The hardware settings menu will open in the program window
Step 4
Go to the Wireless Connection Setup menu. Enter the required values for the items in this menu. In doing so, be guided by the recommendations of the specialists of your provider. Be sure to enable NAT and DHCP functions.
Step 5
Save the changes made to this menu. Proceed to the wireless setup by opening the Wireless Connection Setup menu. Set the SSID (name) for your wireless access point. Enter the password required to access it. Setting a strong password will prevent third-party devices from connecting to your Wi-Fi router.
Step 6
Select the type of security from the options offered by the system. The Dir-300's capabilities allow you to enable the WAP-PSK security protocol. Use this parameter. Save the menu settings.
Step 7
Disconnect power from the equipment for a few seconds. Reconnect the router to AC power and turn it on. Connect wireless devices to your Wi-Fi access point. Connect stationary computers to LAN channels.
