It can take too long to create digital images with a scanner, especially if you have to process a large number of images, pages of a book, magazine or document. However, it is quite possible to increase the scanning speed.

Instructions

Step 1

The first thing to look for when setting up a scan is color. If you are satisfied with the black and white image, in the scanner dialog box, before processing the image, select the value "black and white" for the color format. Scanning in two-color mode will take much less time than scanning in full color. This is most often true when scanning books or documents for subsequent printing on paper.

Step 2

The second thing you can save time on is the resolution (DPI) of the final picture. The lower the value of this indicator, the faster the process of image processing by the device will take place. But to get a high-quality digital photo from a snapshot, you should not set the resolution below 300 DPI. For a book page of A5 format and less, a resolution of 100-200 DPI will be sufficient.

Step 3

The third point is technical. When the scanner processes any image, it takes a long time to pre-scan. This can be avoided by not clicking the Preview button, but immediately clicking Scanning. This will process the entire working area of the scanner, and later additional cropping of the graphic file will be required if the size of the original image is less than the working area of the device.

Step 4

And the last is the type of the target file. If you select TIFF or BMP when scanning, the image conversion process will take much longer than saving the same image as JPEG (recommended) or GIF. The file type can be specified in the same dialog box that appears before scanning.
