During the installation and connection of a new car radio or new speakers, a number of questions may arise: how to correctly determine the polarity of the speaker, how to lay the wire, what is the polarity at the output of the car radio, which wires should be used to connect the speakers to the car radio. Knowing the answers to these questions will help you avoid the most common mistakes when installing and connecting new devices.
It is necessary
- - multimeter;
- - battery with a voltage of 1.5 volts;
- - connecting wire;
- - electrical tape.
Instructions
Step 1
Determine the polarity of the speaker terminals. Polarity is often indicated by the width of the speaker terminals: a wide terminal is a minus, a narrow one is a plus. Also, the polarity of the terminals is sometimes indicated by the plus and minus signs. If the terminals are the same and there is no sign marking, determine the polarity of the speaker connection using a battery with a voltage of 1.5 volts. To do this, connect it to the speaker terminals. If the speaker cone moves forward (outward), the polarity of the terminals corresponds to the polarity of the connected battery; if pushed into the speaker (back), the polarity of the terminals is opposite to the polarity of the battery terminals.
Step 2
Modern car radios have four independent power amplifiers (4 channels). The pins of these amplifiers are color-coded with precise symbols: each pair of pins has its own color. The negative terminal is usually indicated by a wire with a black stripe. Also determine the polarity and belonging of the leads to any channel by the special stickers on them. On these labels, the pins are indicated as "minus left front", which means that this is the negative lead of the front left speaker. Often, a color-coded sticker is additionally located on the top panel of the car radio.
Step 3
When connecting the speakers to the radio, use special wires with a cross section of at least 1.5 square millimeters. They often have a special color coding for each wire. Typically, the marking consists of a pair of "cold" (blue, black, green) and "hot" (red, white, yellow) color. Connect the speakers to the connecting wire and carefully insulate their terminals with electrical tape. Then connect the wires to the terminals of the car radio. Thoroughly insulate both the positive and negative leads from the radio amplifier.
Step 4
Then connect the black (negative or common) lead of the radio to the car body. Connect the red wire (plus power) last. The wire cross-section must be at least 2.5 square millimeters.
