Sometimes it is useful for a user to have information media with him that contains a working and customized copy of Windows. With such a medium, you can start any computer, and you will always have settings and documents with you. However, installing Windows on an external hard drive or USB flash drive has several nuances.

Instructions
Step 1
Download and install PE Builder, which allows you to create and install a compact version of the operating system on a USB flash drive or external hard drive.
Step 2
Decide on a set of plugins that you want to see on your portable version of the operating system. Plugins are located in the plugin subdirectory of the PE Builder installation directory.
Step 3
Start the PE Builder program. Enter in the "source" field the path to the installation disk for your version of Windows XP.
Step 4
Using the "Plugins" button mark the plugins you want to install and add new ones using the "add" button.
Step 5
Click the "Build" button and wait for the process to finish.
Step 6
Run the peinst.cmd file located in the pluginpeinst subdirectory of the PE Builder installation directory.
Step 7
Press the "1" button and enter the path containing the prepared version of Windows, compiled in step 5.
Step 8
Press button "2" and specify the path to your external hard drive or flash drive.
Step 9
To install on the media you specified, first press "5" and then "1".
Step 10
Now you can use your portable storage device on any computer.
