Quite often it happens that after cleaning the desktop of the Windows operating system, not only unused shortcuts disappear, but also useful icons, for example, the trash can. Don't panic: the Recycle Bin itself hasn't gone anywhere, and it's pretty easy to restore it to your desktop. However, keep in mind that icons are restored in different ways in different versions of Windows.
It is necessary
Operating system installed Windows Vista, Windows XP or Windows 7
Instructions
Step 1
Open the control panel. The easiest way to do this is by clicking the Start button in the lower left corner of your desktop. In the menu that appears, select the line "Control Panel", and then find the "Personalization" icon and click on it. A window will appear, on the left side of which you need to click on the "Change desktop icons" button. This is where you will find the missing trash icon. In the "Desktop Icons" box, you need to put a check mark next to the "Trash" icon. Then click "OK". This method is suitable for Windows Vista operating system. The same sequence of actions can be used to restore the trash can icon in the Windows 7 operating system.
Step 2
Open the My Computer folder. This is easily done by double-clicking the My Computer icon on your desktop. Go to the Tools menu and select Folder Options. Find the "View" tab and uncheck the box next to "Hide protected files". In the warning that pops up, click on the "Yes" button and then on "OK". Now you should have a button "Folders" in the general pane of the explorer, clicking on which, you will find the lost recycle bin on the left side of the window. Drag the trash can icon to the desktop. This method of recycle bin recovery is used in the Windows XP operating system.
Step 3
Use the following method if the steps described in the second paragraph of the instruction did not help, and it was not possible to restore the trashcan icon on the desktop. We'll have to go to the operating system registry. Click on the "Start" button and select the "Run" line in the menu that appears. In the dialog box, type the command regedit and click on the "OK" button. The registry will open, in which you need to find the line KEY_CURRENT_USER / Software / Microsoft / Windows / CurrentVersion / Explorer / HideDesktopIcons / NewStartPanel. This line contains parameter {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}, change its value to 0. The trash can icon is restored to the desktop.
