If the operating system uses the default settings, an icon with a stylized speaker image should be displayed in the lower right corner of the monitor screen (in the "tray"). Clicking on it with the left mouse button brings up the volume control on the screen. Like most elements of the operating system graphical interface, the display of this icon can be enabled or disabled by the user.

Instructions

Step 1

When using versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7, to enable the display of the volume control icon in the tray, you need to open one of the sections of the "Control Panel" - it is called "System Icons". The easiest way to do this is through the taskbar. Hover your mouse over the Show Hidden Icons icon, the arrow at the left edge of the taskbar notification area. Right-click on it and select Properties from the pop-up context menu.

Step 2

In the column "System icons" of the window that opens, find the inscription "Volume". In the column "Behavior" opposite this inscription there is a drop-down list with two items - select the line "On" in it.

Step 3

Below the table in this window there are two links for additional actions. Click on the first of them - "Customize notification icons". A new page with a similar table will be loaded into the same window. Find the line "Volume" in it again. This time, the drop-down list in the Behavior column will contain three choices - set the value to Show Icon and Notifications, and click OK. A white icon with a stylized speaker image should appear in the tray.

Step 4

Perhaps you need to return another icon - the Realtek HD dispatcher call icon. It looks exactly the same as the system volume control icon, but is colored orange and is intended to call the audio card driver with more detailed sound reproduction settings. If you haven't used this icon for a while, then the OS has put it in the list of hidden icons. Click on the "Show hidden icons" button at the right edge of the notification area and you will find this icon in the list that opens.

Step 5

You can instruct the system to never hide this icon. Right-click on the "Show hidden icons" button, select "Properties" and click on the "Configure notification icons" link. In the "Icons" column, find the inscription "HD Audio Control Panel" next to the red icon and select "Show icon and notifications" from the drop-down list. Click OK to commit your changes.
