An operating system called Windows Vista was released in 2007. Compared to older Windows XP, it requires a lot more computer power and hardware resources. To the user, it looks like a slow system. So they started looking for ways to speed up and improve Vista. Some of these methods require intervention in the "hardware" part of the computer, some are carried out purely by software.

Instructions

Step 1

Increase the total amount of RAM on your computer. The minimum amount of memory for Windows, according to the developer, is 512 megabytes. However, the performance of such a computer will be very slow. Buy and install 2 gigabytes of memory for the best experience. Although even increasing to 1 GB will noticeably add speed to Vista.

Step 2

Use ReadyBoost to speed up boot and system performance. Plug the flash drive into any USB port on your computer, select "Use for ReadyBoost" and follow the instructions in the wizard. As a result, users whose computers contain a small amount of RAM will receive an additional increase in operating speed, since the flash drive will be used together with RAM. Please note that the flash drive must be at least 2 gigabytes, and the percentage of system acceleration depends on its write speed. That is, if you write a couple of photos to this drive in 20 minutes, then you shouldn't wait for Vista to work better with such a flash drive.

Step 3

Disable as many design effects as possible. Translucent windows and beautiful desktop wallpapers are certainly pleasing to the eye. But at the same time, they require more resources from the computer, which means that they slow down the speed of Vista. Right click on the Computer icon and select the Properties menu. Open the link "Advanced system settings" and select the "Advanced" tab.

Step 4

Click the Options button in the Performance section. A window will open in which check the "Provide best performance" option. Confirm the changes by clicking the "Apply" and OK buttons. In a few minutes, the design will become easier, and the work speed will noticeably improve. Disable the desktop picture, replace it with a solid background - this will also free up several megabytes of memory, which will affect the overall performance of the computer.

Step 5

Provide enough free hard disk space. Delete unnecessary files from logical drives. For the system to work well, you need about three gigabytes on the system disk, plus the same amount on each of the other partitions. This is due to the peculiarities of placing temporary information and data on programs being executed. For example, very often you can improve Vista performance by cleaning the C: drive. When there is little space on it, the system is very slow and unstable.

Step 6

Disable automatic launch of additional applications. Many programs are added to the startup list without the user's knowledge, which increases the overall startup time of the system, as well as slows down the computer as a whole.

Step 7

To do this, click the "Start" button, click on the "Run" menu and type the command msconfig. A window will open in which select the "Startup" tab and uncheck the boxes from those program names that are familiar to you and are not necessary. For example, an email client, messaging tool, music player, and many more can be manually launched as needed and improve Vista performance in this simple way. Remember that it is better not to remove an unknown program from startup, so as not to make it worse. Click the Apply button and restart your computer to apply the settings.
