Before the invention of photography, people, events and landscapes were depicted on the canvases of artists, engravings, stained glass windows, and tapestries. Famous portraits of historical figures and ordinary people are kept in museums, and photographs have replaced huge family portraits. You can, of course, have your portrait commissioned by a portrait painter, if time and money permits. But you can choose the easier way. Making a portrait from a photo!
