You may need to enable the "Desktop Window Manager" utility if you encounter problems with the Aero effect on a computer running Windows version 7. This problem can be solved using the system itself.
Instructions
Step 1
Call the main system menu of Windows version 7 by clicking the "Start" button and go to the "Control Panel" item. Expand the "Administration" link and expand the "Services" node. Select the "Enabled" option in the drop-down list of the "Desktop window manager" line and confirm the saving of the changes made by clicking the OK button.
Step 2
Use an alternative method to force the Desktop Window Manager service to be enabled by using the Registry Editor tool. To do this, return to the main Start menu and go to the Run dialog. Type regedit in the "Open" line and confirm the launch of the editor utility by clicking the OK button.
Step 3
Expand the HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsDWM branch and create a new 32-bit DWORD string value named UseMachineCheck in the right pane of the editor window. Set the generated key to 0.
Step 4
Create another similar parameter named Blur and set it to 0 as well. After that, create another string parameter named Animations. Set 0 as the value of the generated key and save your changes. Exit the Registry Editor utility.
Step 5
Go back to the main Start menu again and type cmd in the test box of the search bar. Call the context menu of the found component of the Windows command interpreter by right-clicking and selecting the "Run as administrator" command.
Step 6
Type in the command line text box: net stop uxsmsnet start uxsms Confirm the selected actions by pressing the Enter function key. These commands will stop the desktop window manager and restart it. Make sure Desktop Window Manager is enabled and the Aero effect can be used.
