Sometimes the computer may shut down by itself. One of the reasons for this phenomenon is overheating of any elements. To avoid this, you need to keep order inside the system unit.

A common reason for spontaneous reboots and even shutdowns of the computer is overheating of the processor. Most modern motherboards have built-in overheating control and protection. It is this system that gives the signal to turn off the computer if the processor temperature rises above 60-70 degrees Celsius.

But why does the processor overheat? The answer is simple. Most likely, the cooler (fan on the processor) starts to deteriorate and does not cope with its task as it should. In addition, the cause of overheating can be dust in the slots of the heatsink installed on the processor along with the cooler, as well as old dried thermal paste.

Thermal paste evenly fills the air gaps between the processor and heatsink and serves for efficient heat transfer between them. When thermal grease dries up, it cannot fully conduct heat, and as a result, the processor heats up to higher temperatures than usual. Therefore, it is recommended to change the thermal paste at least once a year.

To replace the thermal paste, open the lid of the system unit and carefully remove the cooler with heatsink from the processor. How to do this, see the instructions for the motherboard, processor or cooler. fastening methods may vary.

Clean the heatsink and cooler from dust, and at the place where the heatsink touches the processor, remove the old dried thermal grease, and carefully clean the processor itself from it. For this, a regular piece of paper folded several times in the form of a spatula is suitable.

Then apply the new thermal grease evenly, in a thin layer, over the entire surface of the processor, leaving about 1mm clean on all edges (so that the thermal grease does not run out when pressed).
