It is important to know how big your hard drive is. The case for it should be slightly larger. It doesn't make sense to buy a case with shiny characteristics, but in which you cannot fit your hard drive.
Step 2
Determine if you need a cover for daily use or exclusively for long distance travel. For daily use, purchase soft cases; for long-distance transportation of the hard drive, a shockproof case is better suited. No need to skimp on security. Protecting information on a disk is no less important than the safety of the disk itself. To protect the disk from unauthorized access, buy a case not only shockproof, but also with the ability to encode information.

Soft cases for frequent use are made of various materials. Determine which one you need in terms of price / quality ratio. There are many of them. It can be just a soft quilted material, or porous and moisture-repellent neoprene, or light and resilient EVA, or tough abrasion-resistant nylon, or even moisture-proof polyethylene. But with any material, the cover must be durable, shock-resistant.
Step 4
Take a close look at the interior of the case, because it is in contact with the hard drive. It should be soft and gentle to the touch. Otherwise, your removable disk may be scratched when transporting (shipping).
Step 5
If, in addition to the hard drive, you would like to carry a USB cable in a case, please note if the case has a pocket for it. The clasp of the cover must be strong and secure. Otherwise, the hard disk may fall out. Slip-on cases are even more vulnerable.
