Today, almost all motherboards use a PCI Express slot to connect a video card, which, in comparison with its predecessor AGP (accelerated graphics port), has a higher bandwidth. Therefore, modern video cards are connected to the PCI Express slot.

It is necessary

  • - a computer;
  • - screwdriver.

Instructions

Step 1

First, you need to prepare your computer. To do this, disconnect all peripheral devices from it. After that, disconnect the system unit from the power supply and remove its cover. Basically, it is fastened with screws or special latches. Then you need to place the system unit in such a way as to gain convenient access to the system board.

Step 2

Next, find the PCI Express slot. If you have a schematic for the motherboard, then you can first find this connector on it. Typically PCI Express is located on the lower left side of the board. Each of the connectors is signed, so it is impossible to confuse. Please note that some graphics cards may have multiple PCI Express slots. On such motherboards, you can, accordingly, install several graphics adapters at once.

Step 3

The procedure for connecting a video card itself is quite simple. Align the card's connector to the PCI Express connector. Then, lightly press down on the graphics adapter. The device should come in very easily. Now all that remains is to fix the video card on the case of the system unit. This is done using a conventional mounting screw.

Step 4

Many PCI Express video cards require additional power. You can find out if your board requires one in the manual for it. The power connector to the device is located at its end. Connect the 6 Pin Connector from the power supply to this connector. Some graphics cards are powered by the 8 Pin Connector. This completes the procedure for connecting the graphics adapter.

Step 5

Close the lid of the system unit. Connect all peripheral devices. Turn on your computer. Immediately after the system starts, a notification about the new device will appear. After that, you need to be sure to install the driver for the video card.
