Nowadays there is a built-in card reader in almost any computer. To find out which model of card reader is installed on your computer, you can open the lid of the system unit and look directly at it. But this method is not always suitable. First, your computer may be under warranty. In this case, the system unit can be sealed and opening it will void your warranty. Secondly, not every card reader has information about its model.

Step 1

Right-click on the My Computer icon. Then select "Device Manager". A list of all devices connected to the computer appears. Go through the list carefully. This should include your card reader.

Step 2

If through the "Device Manager" you did not receive information about the card reader or want to determine in more detail the model and characteristics of the device, you need to download a special program for monitoring and diagnosing your computer.

Step 3

AIDA64 Extreme Edition is a good program with a convenient and intuitive interface. It takes about ten megabytes. You can download the program from the official website. The trivial term of using the program is one month. Download and install it on your computer.

Step 4

Run the program. Wait a few seconds while it collects system data. After completing this process, you will be taken to the main menu of the program. The program window is divided into two parts. In the right part of the window, find the component "Physical devices" and click on it with the right mouse button. A window will appear listing all physical devices. Drag the window slider down until the USB Devices line appears. Among these devices is a card reader.

Step 5

If you want to define additional parameters of the card reader, on the left side of the main menu of the program, find the "Devices" tab. There is an arrow opposite this tab. Click on it with the left mouse button. A list of devices will appear. In this list, find the line "USB devices" and click on it with the left mouse button.

Step 6

The window that appears will display the entire list of USB devices. In order to find out detailed information about the card reader, click on the arrow next to its name. If you do not know exactly which of the devices is a card reader, you can open all USB devices one by one.
