Step 1
First of all, determine if the computer has a sound input / output device, or, as it is more commonly called, a sound card. The sound card can be either built into the motherboard or installed in a separate slot in the system unit. If you don't have a sound card, purchase it and install it, after installing all the necessary drivers. For communication purposes, an expensive sound card is not needed: a simple model, in which there should be headphone jacks with a microphone, is quite suitable.
Step 2
After reading the user manual of your sound card, determine which of the connectors on it are intended for connecting a microphone, headphones, and other devices. Often, the corresponding slots on the card are color-coded to facilitate the installation of the corresponding devices. Insert the microphone and headphone jacks into the designated jacks.
Step 3
Turn on your computer. Go to the Control Panel in the settings for sound devices. Use special Windows options to adjust volume and other headphone and microphone settings. When everything is ready, do not forget to install special programs on your computer that allow you to communicate with the whole world, such as Skype, Gizmo, GoogleTalk and MailRu Agent.
