Safe Mode is an operating system boot option for troubleshooting. It only runs the basic files and drivers that Windows needs to run. If a recently installed program, driver, or device prevents you from turning on your computer correctly, you can start it in Safe Mode and remove the source of the problem.
Instructions
Step 1
Remove the optical discs from the drive, and then restart your computer.
Step 2
As the computer boots, press the F8 key several times until the Windows logo appears. If you have several operating systems installed, before pressing F8, you must select the operating system that you want to start in safe mode with the arrows.
Step 3
You will be presented with the "Additional Boot Options" screen. Use the up and down arrows to select the type of safe mode you want and press Enter. Types of safe mode:
- safe mode - starts the operating system only with the main set of files and drivers;
- safe mode with loading network drivers - in contrast to the first option, network connections are additionally loaded;
- safe mode with command line support - the computer starts as in the first option, but with a command prompt window instead of the standard Windows interface. This type of download is for professionals.
