An underlay in a Microsoft Word document is an image or text that is applied under the main text of the document. An underlay can be used, for example, to apply a company logo as a background on documents. An image used as a background can be blurred so that it does not interfere with the reading of the page text.
Instructions
Step 1
Adding a text background to the page.
Go to the "Page Layout" tab. In the "Background" section, select "Matte".
Step 2
In the window that opens, select one of the standard underlays or click the "Custom underlay …" button and set the underlay parameters as you like.
Step 3
Using a picture as a background.
Go to the "Page Layout" tab. In the "Background" section, select "Matte". Click the Custom Watermark … button.
Step 4
In the window that opens, set the "Picture" radio button, click the "Select" button and select a picture for the background. Here you can also set the size of the image and desaturate it.
