There are two ways to disable BitLocker: disable the use of BitLocker encryption and decrypt the drive. In the first case, the disk remains encrypted, and a text decryptor stored on the computer is used to read the data. In the second case, all data in the volume is decrypted.
Instructions
Step 1
Click the Start button to bring up the Windows main menu and go to Control Panel to suspend BitLocker Drive Encryption on the operating system drive.
Step 2
Select "System and Security" and expand the link "Bitlocker Drive Encryption".
Step 3
Click the Pause Protection button for the selected operating system drive.
Step 4
Wait for the information dialog box to appear stating that suspending BitLocker will not protect the selected drive's data, and then click Yes to confirm the command.
Note that disabling BitLocker Drive Encryption temporarily removes BitLocker protection without decrypting the drive on which Windows is installed. Disable to update the basic input / output system (BIOS) or computer boot files. This avoids BitLocker drive locking and a lengthy decryption process. Turn on BitLocker after completing the update process and restarting your computer. When disabled, DitLocker uses a plain text key stored on the computer to read files. The data remains unprotected even if the drive is encrypted. When BitLocker is enabled, the text key is removed and the volume is protected using TPM or a password.
Step 5
Click the "Start" button to bring up the main menu of the system and go to "Control Panel" to perform the operation to disable BitLocker Drive Encryption.
Step 6
Select System and Security and expand the BitLocker Drive Encryption link.
Step 7
Specify the drive to edit and click the "Turn off BitLocker" button.
Step 8
Wait for an informational message to appear stating that the disk will be decrypted and this operation may take some time and press the "Decrypt disk" button to confirm the command execution.
