In some situations, to set up a home LAN with Internet access, you can do without the use of network hubs or routers. You just need to configure one computer as a server.
It is necessary
network cables
Instructions
Step 1
Determine which computer will act as the server. In this case, the operating system Windows XP is installed on the selected PC. In principle, this fact does not play a big role, since subsequent versions of the OS are configured in the same way. Install an additional network card in this computer to provide it with a connection to the Internet and other PCs.
Step 2
Connect a network hub to the installed equipment, which, in turn, connect to the rest of the computers that make up your network. Connect the provider's cable to the first network adapter.
Step 3
Turn on the server computer and any other PC. Set up an internet connection on the host computer. Open the properties for this connection. Go to the "Access" menu. Allow this connection to be used by all computers on the local network. In the next menu item "Access" specify your network.
Step 4
Now open the properties of the network adapter that is connected to the hub. Proceed to the TCP / IP protocol configuration. Set the static (permanent) IP address for this network card to 231.231.231.1.
Step 5
This completes the configuration of the server computer. To provide the rest of the computers with an Internet connection using the first PC, perform a series of operations. Open the TCP / IP configuration. If you are using Windows Seven or Vista, select TCP / IPv4.
Step 6
Set the following values for the items in the menu that opens:
IP address - 231.231.231. X
Max subnet - standard
The main gateway - 231.231.231.1
The preferred DNS server is 231.231.231.1.
Please note that X must take values greater than one and must not be repeated.
Step 7
If your network consists of only two computers, then you will not need a network hub. Make a direct connection between the network adapters of these PCs.
