Many PC users sooner or later face a problem when the computer spontaneously reboots during operation, as a result of which unsaved information may be lost, and sometimes the PC does not boot at all when turned on. The reason for this phenomenon may lie both in the hardware and in the software.

Software part

One of the most common reasons for PC reboots during operation is the infection of the OS with viruses. To check it, you need to update the anti-virus database and scan the system. If this phenomenon began after installing a program, then you should think about removing it.

It is not uncommon for the computer to restart at startup. The reason for this is damage to the system files of the OS. In such cases, it is advisable to boot from under the LiveCD and call the "Run" command using the Win + R key combinations. Then, in the command entry field, type chkdskc: / f / r and press OK. After that, you need to wait until all actions are completed and the window is closed.

As a rule, after performing these operations, the system should boot normally. If this did not happen, then you need to take care of saving the necessary information from the system disk and reinstalling the OS.

Hardware part

The reason for the periodic restart of the computer may also lie in its hardware. To find out, you need to open the PC case and make a visual inspection for contamination, swelling of capacitors and other mechanical damage. The most common reason for a computer restart is overheating of the CPU or video card.

The most likely cause of the problem is a dust-clogged radiator or a faulty cooling fan. In this case, carefully remove the heatsink from the processor and clean it from dust. It is also necessary to check for the presence of thermal paste on the processor and apply a new one if necessary. Assemble in reverse order.

It is not uncommon for a computer to be restarted due to faulty RAM. To check it, you can use a number of special programs, for example Memtest86. Nevertheless, the simplest way to check RAM is to replace it with a known good one.

A similar malfunction can occur when using an insufficiently powerful power supply. As a rule, this happens after installing new devices on the computer or connecting peripheral devices, which are powered through the ports of the PC. It will not be superfluous to open the power supply unit and check it for contamination.

If all the above methods did not help, then in order to identify the reasons for the reboot, it is necessary to replace all the component parts one by one. If the fault persists, it is necessary to check the motherboard by replacing it.
