Instructions

Step 1

The first way to remove duplicate values is by using the Remove Duplicates feature. To activate the function, select cells on the sheet that contain duplicate values. You can select the entire table or multiple columns.

Step 2

On the toolbar, go to the Data / Remove Duplicates tab. In the dialog box that opens, indicate if your data contains headers. If your data table has headers at the beginning of each column, check the My data contains headers box in the dialog box.

Step 3

Now, in this dialog box, select the columns to search for duplicate values. Check the box next to each column you want to include. If you need to select all columns, click Select All. Click OK. The dialog box closes. Rows that contain the same values are removed from the table.

Step 4

The next way to remove duplicate cells is by using the conditional formatting feature. Select the columns in the table where you want to find duplicate values. On the toolbar, go to the Home / Conditional Formatting tab.

Step 5

In the dialog box that opens, go to Cell Selection Rules / Duplicate Values. Next, a window with selection fields will appear: by default, leave the formatting of cells with duplicate values and select a format for duplicated cells. Click OK. Duplicate cells will be formatted. With this function, duplicate values are highlighted but not deleted.

Step 6

To remove duplicate values, set the filter on the table. To do this, go to "Data / Filter" on the toolbar. A filter will be installed on the table headers. Open the filter for the column that was conditionally formatted. Select the "Filter by Cell Color" option. Click OK. The table is filtered, now only duplicated cells are displayed. Delete unnecessary ones.
