Working in Microsoft Office Excel, the user can hide columns, rows, and even entire sheets in a workbook. The commands for hiding and showing cells are set using the same tools. To perform operations, you can use both the standard toolbar and the context menu invoked by clicking the right mouse button.

Step 1

Commands invoked using the context menu are available when entire columns and rows are selected. Move the mouse cursor to the column heading or the ordinal numbers of the rows, use the left mouse button to designate the column (row) from which the selection will start and, while holding down the mouse button, move the cursor to the last column (row) of the selected range. Release the mouse button.

Step 2

Right-click on the selected cells, select the "Hide" command in the context menu. To reverse previously hidden cells, in the same way select the columns (rows) between which the collapsed data is located, open the context menu and select the "Show" command in it.

Step 3

If you are going to use the toolbar, you do not need to select entire columns and rows. It is enough to designate a cell or a range of cells for which commands will be executed. Select the range you need and go to the "Home" tab. Click on the "Format" thumbnail button in the "Cells" block. The menu will expand.

Step 4

Choose Hide / Show in the Visibility group. An additional menu will expand. Its upper part is designed to hide data. Select one of the options: Hide Rows, Hide Columns, or Hide Sheet. For the last command in the document workspace, you do not need to select anything.

Step 5

To return to the display, select the cells between which the data is hidden, and select the required command from the same menu: "Show Rows", "Show Columns" or "Show Sheet". In the latter case, nothing needs to be selected again. After you call the command, an additional dialog box will appear in which you will be asked to select the sheet that you want to display from the list. This will happen even if there is only one hidden sheet.
