A desktop computer and a laptop can be combined into a single local area network in two main ways. Usually they use cable connections or create a wireless network using certain devices.
It is necessary
Wi-Fi adapter
Instructions
Step 1
Better to stay with the second option, because it allows you to keep the main advantage of the laptop - its portability. Purchase a Wi-Fi adapter. In this case, almost any device will do, because you do not need to create your own access point. Choose a device to connect to the computer's motherboard or opt for a USB adapter.
Step 2
Connect the purchased Wi-Fi adapter to your computer. Turn on your PC and install the software bundled with your wireless hardware. If it is absent, then go to the official website of the manufacturer and download the necessary program or drivers from there. Restart your computer so that the Wi-Fi adapter can perform all the required functions.
Step 3
Start building your wireless network. In this case, it does not matter at all which device you choose as the main one. Open the Network and Sharing Center and go to the "Manage Wireless Networks" menu (Actual for Windows Seven). In the window that opens, click the "Add" button. It is located above the list of existing networks. Select "Create a computer-to-computer network" and click the "Next" button.
Step 4
Fill out the form provided. Provide your network name, select a security type and enter a password so that other users cannot connect to you. Check the box next to "Save this network settings". Click "Next". Close the window that appears.
Step 5
Turn on the second device. Search for available wireless networks. Connect to the network you just created. Set static addresses for each wireless adapter. This will allow you to quickly access one computer while working from another. you do not have to constantly find out the assigned IP.
