As a rule, in our time more than one computer is installed in houses - according to the number of people living in it. For ease of use, it often makes sense to set up a home file server, especially useful for storing media content and shared files.
Instructions
Step 1
For use as a home network attached storage (NAS), any old system unit will work for you, as long as it works. Modify, if necessary, its cooling system.
Step 2
Choose the hard drive that you plan to use as a NAS drive based on capacity, reliability, and operating temperature considerations, not speed.
Step 3
As an operating system for home network storage, either FreeNas based on the FreeBSD distribution or the Windows Server family are ideal.
Step 4
Be sure to set up remote control of the server, it will be useful to you many times.
Step 5
To avoid the hassle of sharing a server, be sure to set up users and their access rights.
Step 6
If the server has Internet access, install and configure antivirus and firewall software.
