Domain is the symbolic name of the Internet site, as well as the administrative areas of the Internet - com, ru, net, org, info and many others. Site administrators usually want to change the domain when the old site address for one reason or another no longer suits them.
Instructions
Step 1
Unfortunately, the domain name registrar cannot physically change the name of an already registered name. It cannot change even one character - a letter or a number - in the spelling of your website address. If you made a typo when registering a new domain name, you will have to re-register the new domain with the correct name and pay for it again. This method is simple for webmasters who have not yet created a website, but have just registered a domain and are at the initial stage of building an Internet resource.
Step 2
When you want to change the domain of an existing content site, you will not only need to register a new domain, but also transfer the site structure and all its files via FTP to the new hosting directory. To do this, you need to transfer the domain. Attach an additional domain to the hosting and immediately create its directory via FTP, if it is not provided by the hosting automatically. It is advisable not to place sites in the FTP root, use folders to order the sites.
Step 3
Download the CMS to the new directory, configure the necessary files and create a new database via PHPMyAdmin or another system provided by your hosting.
Step 4
Now you need to save the entire structure of the site to transfer it to the new domain. Find a plugin or add-on "Export / Import" for your CMS and use it. All site data will be saved in one archive. Download the resulting file to your computer and on a new "clean" site, using the same tool "Export / Import", download the archive. After downloading, all data will be restored to the new domain. You may need to re-install the design theme, customize plugins.
Step 5
The old site address can be aliased. This means that your site will be available at two addresses - the new (main) and the old (mirror). At the end of the registration period, the previous domain will be disabled. Or you can write a letter to the administration of the registrar service to delete your old domain and all WHOIS information about it.
