With the ability to centrally manage user accounts, security policies, and network resources, a Windows domain greatly simplifies administration tasks. However, network logon and work in the domain is only possible with a functioning server. Therefore, sometimes it is necessary to take a computer out of the domain.
It is necessary
- - a computer running Windows;
- - an account with administrative rights.
Instructions
Step 1
Open the Windows Control Panel folder window. To do this, in the menu displayed when you click on the "Start" button, which is located in the taskbar on the desktop, select the "Settings" item. A child menu will open. Click in it on the item "Control Panel".
Step 2
If information is displayed in the control panel by category, switch to the classic view by clicking on the corresponding link located in the "Control Panel" block on the right. Alternatively, navigate to the Performance and Maintenance category by opening a shortcut or choosing an item with this name in the Go section of the View menu.
Step 3
Open the System Properties dialog. To do this, find the shortcut with the name "System" in the control panel and open it by double-clicking or using the "Open" item of the context menu.
Step 4
Open the "Change Computer Name" dialog. In the System Properties dialog go to the Computer Name tab. Click the "Change" button.
Step 5
Take the computer out of the domain. In the "Member of" group of controls of the "Change Computer Name" dialog, activate the "Workgroup:" option. The text box below becomes active. Enter WORKGROUP into it. Click OK to apply the changes. A dialog will be displayed with fields for entering a username and password. Click the OK button in it, as well as in the two message boxes that appear next.
Step 6
Restart your computer for the changes to take effect and you can start working outside the Windows domain. Click the Start button on the taskbar on your desktop. In the menu that appears, select "Turn off computer". Reboot by clicking the appropriate button or selecting an option in the displayed dialog. Wait for the process to finish and log in as a local user.
