Step 1
Select and purchase the right equipment. When examining the parameters of this device, pay attention to the possible options for the types of security (WEP, WPA- and WPA2-PSK) and radio signal (802.11b, g, n). Check the possibility of creating an access point with mixed radio signal types.
Step 2
Install the Wi-Fi router in an open area. Do not hide the device in a cabinet or other container, because this will negatively affect the signal level. Connect power to the equipment. Connect to one of the Ethernet (LAN) ports of the router a network card of a laptop or desktop computer using a twisted pair cable for this connection.
Step 3
Find the WAN (DSL, Internet) port on the Wi-Fi router case. Connect the provider's cable to it. Turn on the device connected to the router and launch the browser. In the url input field, enter the standard IP of the router. Specify its meaning in the instructions for the equipment.
Step 4
Enter your username and password to access the settings menu. To configure the connection to the ISP's server, open the WAN (Internet Setup Settings) menu. Set the required type of communication protocol, change the advanced parameters of this menu. Be sure to specify the username and password required for authorization on the server, and enable the NAT and DHCP functions. Save the parameters.
Step 5
To create a wireless access point, go to the Wi-Fi menu (Wireless Setup Settings). Create and enter a network name, set a password, and select radio transmission and security types. Save the network settings.
Step 6
Reboot your Wi-Fi router. Turn on the laptop not connected to the device with a cable. Open the Network and Sharing Center. Select "Set up a new connection or network". Select "Connect to a wireless network manually".
Step 7
Fill in the items of the menu that opens so that the specified parameters correspond to the settings of the router. Click the Finish button. Open the list of available wireless networks and connect to the desired access point.
