Skype is software designed to communicate over the Internet. Even if you don't have a webcam, there is always the option to purchase an inexpensive microphone and communicate through it. Communication only through a microphone will be more profitable if you do not have unlimited Internet. In a situation where you want to mute the microphone so that the interlocutor does not hear, for example, external noise, it is enough to change some settings.

Instructions

Step 1

Move the cursor over the panel located at the bottom of the window, where the photo or video of your interlocutor is displayed. If during the conversation this panel disappeared, move the mouse to make it reappear. Find the microphone icon among the controls. Click on it and it will be crossed out. The message “Microphone off” will be displayed. The other person will not hear you. To continue the conversation, again click on the microphone icon, thereby you turn it on. If you interrupt the connection with the microphone turned off, keep in mind that the next time you call, the microphone will turn on by default.

Step 2

If you need to completely turn off the microphone, select the Tools tab from the menu, select the Settings item in the expanded list. Next, you need to click on the Audio Settings parameter. The top line is called "Microphone", under which is the microphone volume control. Move the slider to set the minimum volume value, then you will mute the microphone. To do this, uncheck the box “Automatically adjust microphone settings”.

Step 3

You can also mute the microphone on the system. Click Start - Control Panel - Sound. In the sound settings window, select the recording tab. Next, click on the icon that says "Microphone", click "Properties". In the new window, select the "Levels" tab. There will be a speaker icon next to the volume slider. Click on it, a small crossed out circle will appear. This means that the microphone is disabled at the operating system level. Click “OK” to save.

Step 4

If you have completely turned off the microphone, following steps 2 and 3, this means that you will not be heard when making new calls.
