Hardware acceleration makes it possible to perform actions on a computer with greater comfort or speed. This is applicable when it comes to a sound card or video card. Sometimes, to fix problems in games, you need to change this function - disable it or use it in full.
Instructions
Step 1
Left-click the Start Menu. Select the Run submenu, type dxdiag and click OK. This will launch the built-in Windows diagnostics tool, which can be used to find out the details about the acceleration of the computer systems. You can also press the Windows key and R key combination to invoke the utility, and then type dxdiag.
Step 2
For Windows XP. Click on the "Screen" or "Display" tab. In the lower half of the window, you will see the labels: DirectDraw Acceleration, Direct3D Acceleration, and AGP Acceleration. On the contrary, the current status will be indicated, that is, hardware acceleration is enabled or disabled. Next to the status there is a button "Disable" or "Enable". Click on it if you want to change the hardware acceleration of this service. Click on the "Check" button if you want to diagnose the operation of your computer.
Step 3
Select the "Sound" tab. At the bottom of the window, you will see a slider labeled "Hardware Acceleration Level". Move it to make changes and click the "Test DirectSound" button. This is only possible on older operating systems such as Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Windows 7 has a fundamentally different mechanism for working with sound, so there is no way to change this setting. Click the "Exit" button after editing.
Step 4
Right click on the desktop and select Properties if you are using Windows XP. Click on the "Options" tab, the "Advanced" button. In Windows 7 or Vista, also right-click on the desktop to open the menu and click on "Screen resolution" and the link "advanced settings". Either way, the properties menu will open. In it, select the "Diagnostics" tab. You will see a slider that you can move to change the hardware acceleration. In Windows 7, to do this, first click the "Change" button. Do not forget to save your changes by clicking the "Apply" button.
Step 5
Restart your computer to enable hardware acceleration. Update your computer's graphics card, sound card, and DirectX library driver. This will allow you to take full advantage of the capabilities of the PC.
