When buying a new monitor, it may seem to you that all the images on it look unnaturally bright or, on the contrary, are too dim, that the colors are distorted. In this case, you can try to independently adjust the contrast and brightness of the screen without using special programs.
Instructions
Step 1
The tips below will allow you to improve the quality of the image on the monitor, make colors more natural, and relieve eye strain from excessive brightness. But they are not a guide to professional monitor calibration.
Step 2
Find the menu to change the brightness and contrast of your monitor. Most likely, you will find a Menu button on the front or side panel. Click on it.
Step 3
Next to the Menu, there should be a few more buttons that will allow you to navigate through the sections of the menu. For example, these might be arrow keys.
Step 4
In the general section of the menu, find the "Brightness / Contrast" category. Both of these parameters are usually found in the same subsection.
Step 5
Your monitor menu can be represented by unsigned icons. The Brightness parameter is usually depicted as a color or black and white schematic sun. And the "Contrast" parameter is indicated in the form of a circle, square or other geometric figure, divided into two parts by a vertical line. One of the parts of such an icon is most often highlighted in white, the other in black.
Step 6
For the convenience of adjustment, the "Brightness" and "Contrast" parameters can be placed on the front or side panel of the monitor in the form of independent buttons.
Step 7
Let's go directly to the setup. Take a sheet of plain white paper. Place it on your desktop in front of your monitor. Open a blank document in Notepad. This is so that you can appreciate how white is displayed on your monitor.
Step 8
Move the Brightness slider until the white on the monitor matches the color of the leaf in front of you. This is an absolutely subjective perception, in which your opinion is the main and only criterion. Do not consult with strangers who are not going to work behind the same monitor.
Step 9
To successfully adjust contrast, choose two photographs: a man in a completely white shirt and a man in a plain black shirt. Move the Contrast slider until you can clearly see the folds of both shirts. Adjust the brightness a little again if necessary.
Step 10
At first, you may feel that the monitor has become dull or yellowish. This is optical illusion after excessively high standard brightness settings.
