Lighting conditions with laptop computers change much more frequently and over much wider ranges than with desktop computers. Therefore, the brightness of the laptop screen has to be adjusted from time to time. This operation can be implemented in several ways - from pressing two buttons on the keyboard to changing the settings of the operating system.

Instructions

Step 1

Take advantage of the hotkeys assigned to the brightness up and down functions - these two operations are separate in notebook computers. One of the keys included in both combinations is Fn, and each laptop manufacturer chooses the other two at its discretion. For example, if you are using an Asus laptop, press Fn + F6 to increase brightness and Fn + F5 to decrease brightness. The required function buttons should be marked with the appropriate pictograms - usually this is a sun symbol, supplemented by a plus and a minus, multidirectional triangles, or just two suns of different sizes.

Step 2

Another way to change the brightness is using the corresponding control of the operating system that runs the laptop. In Windows 7, to bring it up to the screen, press the Win key, type "ele" and click on the line "Change power plan" in the set of links that appears.

Step 3

In the applet window, use the sliders to the right of the "Adjust plan brightness" label to set the desired brightness. There are two such regulators - one allows you to set the parameter value for a laptop connected to an external power source, and the other adjusts the brightness of the screen when running on battery power. Complete the procedure by clicking on the "Save changes" button.

Step 4

If your laptop has light sensors, using Windows settings, you can set the screen brightness to change automatically depending on its "light" - in the dark, the brightness will decrease, in the sun - increase. To find out if your laptop has such sensors, click on the Change advanced power settings link in the Control Panel applet window described above.

Step 5

The window that opens will contain sets of settings, divided into sections, each of which is opened by clicking on the plus sign to the left of its name - open the "Screen" section. If it has a setting called "Enable adaptive brightness control", it means that the necessary sensors are installed in the laptop, and the version of Windows used allows them to be used. Set the On line and Battery lines to On, and then click OK.
