When assembling a computer or upgrading it, when it becomes necessary to choose the right processor, many PC users do not know which processor will fit their motherboard and why this one and not another. The value of the socket is used for this. This is where the CPU is attached to the system board. The socket numbering is indicated by numbers.
It is necessary
- Screwdriver, Everest or cpu-z programs,
- instructions for motherboard and processor
Instructions
Step 1
The easiest way to find out your socket value is to take the instructions for the motherboard. Find and open the page that describes its characteristics and see the numbers you need. In the same place, usually, the line of processors that will fit your motherboard is indicated. If there is none, then consider the following options.
Step 2
Knowing the name and manufacturer of your motherboard (this can be read on it by removing the side cover of the system unit), go to the official website of the manufacturer and already there indicating the name of the motherboard, look at its characteristics.
Step 3
It so happens that many manufacturers often indicate the value of the socket in the place where the processor is attached to a metal or plastic part of the motherboard. To do this, you need not be lazy, take a screwdriver, unscrew the side cover bolts, remove it, unscrew the screws holding the fan and the processor cooling radiator, while, without touching the processor itself, you are in the coveted place.
Step 4
If all of the above did not help, then there are programs that scan the system and give out your specification. For example, Everest or cpu-z. The simpler one is cpu-z. Here we will analyze it. Search on the Internet or purchase from a store, install on your computer. After launching it, wait and find the Package column in the window that appears. This is where your socket will be listed.
Step 5
Depending on which processor you have installed, you can also determine which socket you have on the motherboard. This list will help you with this.
