Restriction of user access to applications on a computer running under Windows OS version 7 can be carried out by the administrator either by means of the system itself or by using specialized additional programs.
Instructions
Step 1
Use Windows 7 Group Policy to restrict access to selected applications. Note that this tool cannot be used in Home Basic and Home Premium. To do this, open the main system menu by clicking the "Start" button and type gpedit.msc in the search bar. This will launch the Local Group Policy Editor utility.
Step 2
Expand the User Configuration link and go to the Administrative Templates section. Expand the System node and find the line "Run only specified Windows applications" in the list. Open the found link by double-clicking and apply the checkbox in the "Enable" line of the dialog box that opens.
Step 3
Use the Show command in the Options section and select the applications to which you want to restrict access from the list of the new dialog box. Confirm saving of the changes made by clicking OK.
Step 4
Download and install the dedicated Security Administrator application on your computer. The program is paid, but a free demo version is also available, allowing you to evaluate the merits of the application within thirty days. This program allows you not only to restrict access to applications and settings, but even completely block the turned on computer during the absence of the administrator. The functionality of the program includes:
- restricting access to desktop settings;
- disabling certain items of the main menu "Start";
- hiding the taskbar;
- prohibiting the installation and removal of applications;
- limiting the ability to access the Internet;
- prohibition of making changes to the system registry entries;
- prohibition of activating the DOS mode;
- prohibiting the installation of new drivers;
- prohibition of copying or moving files and folders.
