When choosing a monitor or TV, you may notice a special abbreviation that is next to the product name. This abbreviation indicates the type of LCD screen matrix.
There are quite a few different matrixes of liquid crystal screens, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages. There are 3 of them, they are: TN-matrix, IPS and MVA (PVA) -matrix.
TN matrix
TN-matrix is the oldest of all those described above. Screens with this kind of matrix technology do not have any advantages, except for their cost, which is why they are still on the market today. It is worth noting that devices with a similar matrix even in some way displace devices with other matrices, because most people choose a monitor or TV, focusing only on cost.
As for the viewing angle, it is rather bad in relation to the rest of the matrices. The contrast drops to a 5: 1 ratio, and in some cases even 10: 1. Unfortunately, the TN-matrix is not capable of transmitting 16.7 million colors, which means that the color rendering of such devices is rather poor. The only thing in which such matrices are superior to all others, except for cost, is the response time.
IPS matrix
IPS matrices were created in order to eliminate all possible defects of the previous version. Firstly, it is worth noting the level of color rendering. If you are watching a movie, then the picture in it will look more like the real one. In this case, the viewing angle is several times greater than the angle of TN matrices.
In front of such a TV or monitor, several people can be located at once and all of them will see what is happening on the screen. The response time of devices with such a matrix is 16 ms. This indicator makes it quite comfortable to watch movies or play games.
MVA (PVA) -matrix
MVA (PVA) matrices are something in between TN and IPS matrices. This is especially true of color rendition. The fact is that when you look directly at the screen, some shades of the dark disappear, and when you look a little from the side, they reappear. Among the main advantages of this type of matrix, it is worth noting: contrast, thanks to which it became possible to achieve high definition in details, as well as a short response time, which is equal to the response time of IPS matrices.
As a result, if you are going to buy a monitor or TV and do not know which type of matrix to use on the device, then if you do not want to spend too much money, buy a monitor with a TN matrix, in all other cases you can turn your attention to better quality models.
