Step 1
Purchase the device of your choice and provide it with an AC connection. Purchase the required number of network cables. Use them to connect the LAN (Ethernet) connectors of the switch to the network adapters of your computers. It is better to use a switch that has a learning function. This will make it much easier to set up.
Step 2
Now configure the settings for the network adapters of the connected computers. In this case, it is better to use constant IP addresses for all network cards. Low-cost switches have severely limited routing table capabilities. It is not recommended to overload this device using dynamic IP addresses. Open Network and Sharing Center on any computer. Go to the "Change adapter settings" menu.
Step 3
Right-click on the icon of the required local network (if there are several of them). Select Properties. Now open the TCP / IP parameters of this network card. Click on "Use the following IP address". Enter the static IP value for the configured NIC. The rest of the items can be left unchanged if you do not plan to include a server or router in your network. Save the settings of this menu by clicking the "OK" button.
Step 4
Configure the network adapters of other computers in the same way. It is better to use IP addresses that will be located on the same subnet. Replace only the fourth segment of the address. Remember that switches are not capable of providing high-quality communication between Internet resources and intranet computers. The advantage is that when a large number of computers are connected, switches provide a higher speed of information exchange than routers.
