To create a large enough local area network, you need to use multiple network switches. For their correct connection, it is recommended to follow certain rules.

Instructions

Step 1

If you already have a ready-to-use local network, and you need to add more devices to it, then purchase an additional network switch. Under normal conditions, equipment that does not support the ability to configure each LAN port is suitable.

Step 2

Plug in the network switch and secure the device. Now take a pre-prepared network cable with LAN connectors at both ends. If your new switch has an Uplink port, then the connection must be made through it. Otherwise, it is recommended to use the LAN1 port. Use this cable to connect the LAN connectors of both network switches. This may require disconnecting one computer or printer from the first network equipment.

Step 3

If you have chosen a budget model of a network switch that only works in automatic learning mode, then simply connect new network computers or printers to its free LAN ports.

Step 4

Considering the fact that network switches, unlike routers, do not support NAT and DHCP functions, you will have to configure new computers on the network yourself. To do this, open the Network and Sharing Center and go to "Change adapter settings".

Step 5

Right-click on the icon of the network card connected to the switch. Open the "Properties" item. Now open the "Internet Protocol TCP / IPv4" menu by clicking the "Properties" button.

Step 6

Set the IP address to a static value, which will differ from the addresses of other computers connected to the first switch, only by the fourth segment. Set the desired subnet mask address. Register the gateway and DNS server to access the Internet through a networked computer or server. Configure other computers in the same way.
