Instructions

Step 1

Enter through the "Start" menu in the "Control Panel" by clicking on the line with the left mouse button. When the panel is displayed in the form of categories, select the "Appearance and Themes" section by clicking on the icon with the left mouse button. In the window that opens, left-click on the "Taskbar and Start Menu" icon. If the Control Panel is displayed in Classic View, immediately select the Taskbar and Start Menu icon. The Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window opens in the lower left corner of the screen.

Step 2

There is a faster access to the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window. Move the cursor to the taskbar and right-click on it in any place free of program icons. In the drop-down menu, select the last line "Properties" and click on it with any mouse button.

Step 3

Go to the "Taskbar" tab in the properties window that opens. In the "Design of the taskbar" section (it is located in the upper part of the properties window, immediately below the field for graphically displaying the current settings), put a marker in the "Automatically hide the taskbar" field. Click on the "Apply" button, close the window by clicking on the "OK" button at the bottom of the window or on the "X" button in the upper right corner of the window. The panel will be hidden.

Step 4

To access the taskbar and start menu after changing the settings, simply move the mouse cursor to the bottom edge of the screen - the panel will “pop up”. As long as the cursor is in the taskbar area, it will be visible; if you move the cursor to any other location, the panel will automatically hide.

Step 5

In order to return the classic display of the taskbar and the Start menu, repeat all the steps to open the taskbar properties window and uncheck the "Automatically hide the taskbar" box, click the "Apply" button and close the properties window using the "OK" button or the "X" button in the upper right corner of the window.
