To recognize text from an image, specialized scanners are used that allow you to save the desired document in any supported format for subsequent editing and printing. Many programs allow you to work with scanned copies of various materials, articles and other typewritten texts.
Instructions
Step 1
One of the most popular OCR programs is ABBYY Fine Reader. In addition to scanning regular image files, the program allows you to recognize PDF files (no text layer) or DJVU, preserving the original formatting and appearance of the text as much as possible. The application can work with many different languages and save the final result in DOC, DOCX, XLS, ODT, TXT, RTF and PDF formats.
Step 2
Download the program from the official site and install it in accordance with the instructions of the installer. After the installation is complete, launch the application.
Step 3
Open the menu item "File" - "Open PDF or Image". In the window that appears, select the image from which you want to scan the text.
Step 4
Wait until the end of the process of adding the selected elements to the document. When finished, all added pictures will be displayed on the left side of the window, and a full-size version of the selected page will be shown on the right. Using the toolbar, you can select the required boundaries of the scan areas. In the left part of the program window, select "Document language" - "Russian" (or any other language supported by the program that you want to recognize).
Step 5
Go to the section "Document" - "Recognize" or use the corresponding button on the toolbar. After the procedure is completed, select the menu "File" - "Transfer document to" - Microsoft Word. You can also choose the save format Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, TXT or HTML. Select the location to save the file, and then press the "Save" button. Recognition completed.
Step 6
From the Fine Reader counterparts, you can use the free CuneiForm program. To quickly convert a single file, you can use special online services for scanning images. In particular, there are online versions of FineReader, SimpleOCR and OnlineOCR Service.
